Sea King & River King Guide

Legend of the River King 2 hides three late-game kings behind story progress: River King at Summit, Sea King at Ocean, and Fish King at Remote Island. Open each area, bring the methods its king accepts, then land the fight with the same run-and-reel rhythm used on every other fish.

Hunt order that matches story progress

Kid and Teen open on different coasts, but the king sequence converges: Summit first, Ocean second, Remote Island last.

Summit

River King (White Catfish)

In-game Fish Memo text is shortened to W.Catfsh. This is the freshwater king of the Summit map.

Where and when

  • Region: Summit (map ID 4)
  • Gate: river-king story event must be open
  • Once-per-save: after you catch it, the zone no longer returns River King
  • Fallback fish: Snakehead when the gate is closed or the king is already logged

Working loadout

  • Rod family: Lure Rod (6f shop rod is enough to start)
  • Tackle: Frog lure only (60 G at any Tackle Shop)
  • No separate hook—lures are worked underwater with A
  • Average size 99 cm, so prepare for a multi-cycle fight
Common miss: bringing freshwater bait Frog instead of the Frog lure. River King’s bait mask only accepts the lure Frog. Press A in the underwater view until the fish fully takes the lure.

Ocean

Sea King

The 230 cm saltwater king is trolling-only. If you are casting bait from shore, you will never pull Sea King.

Where and when

  • Region: Ocean (map ID 7)
  • Gate: sea-king story event must be open
  • Fish from the captain’s cruiser with a Trolling Rod
  • Fallback fish: Bluefin Tuna when the gate is closed or the king is already caught

Working loadout

  • Rod: Trolling R.30 (Shore Red Seabream exchange) or shop Trolling R.80 (800 G)
  • Tackle: Spearfish Fly (120 G) or Squid (100 G)
  • Both are sold at sea Tackle Shops in Beach, Shore, or Ocean
  • Trolling R.130 is optional—earn it later from the Shore Spearfish contest
Cruiser control: steer to move the trailing fly, or press B to retrieve. Wait for the continuous bite tone, set the hook, then release during the escape tone—exactly like shore fights, only larger.

Remote Island

Fish King (King of Kings)

Fish Memo label Fsh King. Remote Island sits inside the Heaven Jewel and only opens after River King and Sea King progress with cruiser travel.

Where and when

  • Region: Remote Island / Island (map ID 8)
  • Gates: remote-island unlock and fish-king story event
  • Access note: take the cruiser after both earlier kings
  • Fallback fish: King Salmon when the king slot is unavailable

Working loadouts

  • Freshwater bait: Frog + large hook on a bait rod
  • Saltwater bait: Lugworm or Marine Worm + large hook
  • Lure: Frog lure on a Lure Rod
  • Trolling: Young Tuna Fly or B.Marlin Fly
Size tip: average 150 cm pushes you into the large-hook band for bait methods. If the fish slips free at the hook check, step up to Hook(L) before changing maps.

Why the king is missing

Story gates and fallback fish

Each king can be caught once per save. It appears only after its story milestone, before it has been caught, and when the correct fishing zone is selected.
King Region Unlock condition (practical) Fallback fish
River King (W.Catfsh) Summit River King story event open; not yet caught Snakehead
Sea King Ocean Sea King story event open; not yet caught Bluefin Tuna
Fish King (Fsh King) Remote Island Island unlock + Fish King story event; not yet caught King Salmon

If you only see the fallback, finish the related NPC/story beat for that map, confirm you still have the king unlogged, and re-enter the king zone instead of grinding random water forever.

Key gear path

Rods and flies you actually need

You do not need every rod in the game for the three kings. Prioritize lure access, a trolling rod, and the Sea King flies.

Lure Rod 6f

300 G at freshwater Tackle Shops. Enough for River King with Frog lure.

Trolling R.30

Shore quest reward for a Red Seabream exchange. First free path into Sea King trolling.

Trolling R.80

800 G at sea Tackle Shops if you want shop access without the Shore exchange.

Spearfish Fly / Squid

Only two Sea King-compatible trolling baits. Buy extras before long cruiser loops.

Trolling R.130

Shore Spearfish contest reward after Momo and cruiser access. Optional prestige rod, not a Sea King hard gate.

Hook(L)

Best default for Fish King bait setups around 150 cm average size.

Stuck on a king

Fixes for empty water and lost fights

I only catch Snakehead / Bluefin Tuna / King Salmon

That is the fallback for each king zone. The story milestone is not complete, or you already caught that king. Finish the map’s king story beat and check the Fish Memo before grinding more casts.

Sea King never appears on my T.Rod or Surf Rod

Sea King accepts trolling tackle only. Move to the cruiser, equip a Trolling Rod, and load Spearfish Fly or Squid.

River King ignores every bait I own

Switch to a Lure Rod and the Frog lure. Freshwater bait Frog is a different item and will not satisfy the River King lure mask.

The king bites, then escapes every time

Use the same fight loop as regular fish: do not reel while it runs, reel on rests, release on the continuous escape tone. Large kings simply need more clean cycles.

Remote Island is not on my route map yet

Complete River King and Sea King progress, then use the cruiser path into the Heaven Jewel. Fish King also needs its own story gate after the island is reachable.

Quick reference

Sea King & River King FAQ

Where is the River King?

Summit. Look for the story-gated White Catfish (W.Catfsh) zone after the river-king event opens.

How do you catch the Sea King?

Troll Ocean with Spearfish Fly or Squid after the sea-king event. Shore bait rods will not work.

What is the Fish King?

The Remote Island king (Fsh King). Unlock the island and its story gate, then use Frog bait/lure, saltwater worms, or tuna/marlin trolling flies.

Do Kid and Teen share kings?

Yes. Encounter tables are shared. Early map order and starter gear differ by route.

Is Trolling R.130 required?

No. It is a later contest reward. Trolling R.30 or R.80 plus the correct fly is enough for Sea King.

How many kings are there?

Three story kings: River King, Sea King, and Fish King. They sit among the 104 Fish Memo entries.
