No-Trade Core

Team roles that fit Crystal

Starter anchorFeraligatr, Typhlosion, or Meganium can stay, but patch its blind spots.
Ice specialistLapras, Jynx, Piloswine, or Ice Punch support makes Lance realistic.
Electric specialistMagneton or Lanturn replaces the usual Ampharos advice for no-trade Crystal.
Psychic or FlyingKadabra, Espeon, Jynx, Xatu, Fearow, or Crobat helps through Koga and Bruno.
Karen breakerMachoke, Miltank, Heracross, Quagsire, or a strong Return user prevents Umbreon stalls.
Ground/Water/Rock pivotQuagsire, Graveler, Golem by trade, Red Gyarados, or Suicune gives emergency coverage.

Stuck Fixes

Common wipe reasons

Lance keeps sweeping me

Save Ice PP, lead Electric into Gyarados, and keep an emergency heal for the level 50 Dragonite. If your only Ice user faints before Lance, revive it before entering the Champion room.

Koga's evasion is wasting turns

Do not let Muk and Crobat stack Minimize or Double Team. Use Psychic, Ground, Electric, Ice, or Rock pressure early, and heal Toxic outside the fight.

Karen's Umbreon will not go down

Stop trying to win only with Psychic or weak special hits. Use Fighting, Return, strong neutral physical damage, or setup only when confusion and Sand-Attack are under control.

My guide says to use Ampharos

That advice fits Gold and Silver better than no-trade Crystal. Mareep is absent in Crystal, so use Magneton, Lanturn, ThunderPunch users, or trade if your rules allow it.
