If you mean the ambient owl
The ambient owl has no farm mechanic. Its appearance does not predict luck, weather, crop damage or a quest. You do not need a scarecrow for it.
If crops were damaged
Crop damage points to crows, not the ambient owl. Check scarecrow coverage rather than looking for a nighttime flight window.
How to get a definite answer
Match the sighting to a screenshot, the location, whether it happened during normal play or an overnight cutscene, and what changed the next morning. Without those details, calling every large dark shape an owl is not reliable.
