Mushroom Trees in Stardew Valley 1.6.15: Conversion and Tapper Schedule

Mushroom Trees are wild trees that produce mushrooms when tapped. The conversion algorithm and output schedule below apply to Stardew Valley 1.6.15.24356.

The Fall conversion is not a 5% roll per tree

On the Farm during Fall after day 1, the game runs this process:

  1. The farm must have at least one terrain feature.
  2. Once per day, the game passes a single 5% event gate.
  3. If that gate succeeds, it makes up to 10 random selections from the farm’s terrain-feature dictionary.
  4. The first selected feature that is a mature Tree (growth stage 5+), is not tapped, and is not a temporary Green Rain tree is changed to tree type 7: Mushroom Tree.
  5. The loop then stops, so this event converts at most one tree that day.

This is not an independent 5% chance for every tree. More trees can improve the chance that one of the 10 random selections lands on an eligible tree, but they do not each receive a separate 5% roll.

Which trees are eligible?

The local conversion block does not check the original tree type. Its explicit checks are maturity, untapped state, and not being a temporary Green Rain tree. Oak, Maple, Pine, and Mahogany are therefore locally eligible when they meet those conditions. A tapped tree is skipped.

What a Mushroom Tree Tapper produces

The output is a Common Mushroom, Red Mushroom, or Purple Mushroom—not “sap.” Winter has no matching output rule, so the tapper does not produce then.

Heavy Tapper effect

The Heavy Tapper has the local context tag tapper_multiplier_2. Tree logic converts that to a 0.5 time multiplier, floors the configured day count, and enforces a minimum of one day. Therefore:

  • Two-day Common/Purple cycles become one-day cycles.
  • One-day cycles remain one day.
  • The Heavy Tapper does affect Mushroom Trees; it simply cannot reduce a one-day rule below the one-day minimum.

Practical setup

  • Leave multiple mature farm trees untapped during Fall if you want the daily conversion event to have eligible targets.
  • Do not interpret a failed day as every tree losing a 5% roll; the event may fail its one daily gate or miss eligible trees in its limited selections.
  • Use a Heavy Tapper if you want the normal two-day non-Fall cycles shortened to one day.
