Stardew Valley Auto-Petter: Current Sources and Treasure Odds
How to get an Auto-Petter in Stardew Valley 1.6

The Auto-Petter automates the daily machine petting effect but does not prevent you from petting an animal manually. It belongs inside the animal building it serves.
Verified acquisition routes
- Joja route: the local Joja shop entry sells big craftable 272 for 50,000g after the required Joja progression event.
- Skull Cavern treasure rooms: Auto-Petter occupies one of 26 entries in the base treasure switch. Conditional on reaching that base roll its probability is 1/26 ≈ 3.85%, not a flat 3%.
- Dangerous Mines special enemies: accept the relevant Qi special order in the Walnut Room and then farm the reset dangerous version of the ordinary Mines. The monsters are not inside the Walnut Room.
Why the unconditional treasure chance can be lower
Local MineShaft.getTreasureRoomItem checks two eligible overrides before the 26-way base roll:
- a 2% Golden Animal Cracker override when the related mastery condition is met;
- a 4.5% Trinket override when Trinkets can spawn for the player.
| Eligible earlier overrides | Auto-Petter chance per opened treasure chest |
|---|---|
| Neither | 3.846% |
| Mastery override only | 3.769% |
| Trinket override only | 3.673% |
| Both | about 3.600% |
These percentages are conditional on already opening a treasure-room chest. Luck affects the route to treasure rooms and therefore the number of attempts; it does not turn the Auto-Petter branch itself into a simple flat 3% rule.
Dangerous Mines location boundary
The Walnut Room supplies the Qi order. Danger In The Deep applies the dangerous-mine rule while the player descends the standard Mines to floor 120. After the dangerous state is available again, special slimes and other dangerous enemies are farmed on those Mine floors. Search strategies should therefore name the Mines level and active dangerous state rather than telling players to hunt monsters in Qi’s room.
