Stardew Valley 1.6 Pets: Breeds Adoption and Friendship
Stardew Valley 1.6 Pet Guide
Current roster
| Pet type | Breeds | Start selection | Additional adoption price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cat | 5 | All 5 | 40,000g each |

| Turtle | 2 | No | 60,000g and 500,000g |
The game is no longer limited to three cat and three dog appearances or one permanent pet. After reaching maximum friendship with the first pet and receiving the adoption unlock from Marnie, additional pets can be adopted when you have an available Pet Bowl.
Pet Bowls and care
- Robin's additional Pet Bowl costs 5,000g plus 25 Hardwood and has a 2×2 footprint.
- The first successful pet interaction each day adds 12 friendship, capped at 1,000. It is not +20.
- A filled water bowl adds a separate 6 friendship during the pet's day update. Keep petting and bowl watering as separate daily sources.
- Cats and dogs can wear hats. The hat interaction is part of the current pet code; turtles are not included in that cat/dog hat branch.
- At 1,000 friendship each pet type has a 20% gift roll; the possible gift list differs for cats, dogs, and turtles.
Planning multiple pets
Build and assign a bowl for every additional pet before buying it. The adoption menu uses the local Pet data prices, so the expensive second turtle is intentionally much more costly than a standard cat or dog. Friendship is tracked per pet; buying another animal does not copy the first pet's 1,000 points.
