Canceling a quest removes it from the journal, but the consequences depend on how that quest is implemented. A fixed story event, a placed lost-item quest, a normal item delivery, and a timed Special Order do not share one universal cancellation rule.
A Winter Mystery and the Magnifying Glass
During Winter, entering the Bus Stop from the Farm between 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM triggers event 520702 and adds quest 31, A Winter Mystery. The local quest text calls the character a shadowy figure. Follow the footprints into Town and shake the marked bush near the playground/Community Center area.
