Stardew Valley Meteorite: Night Event, Loot, and Iridium Sources
A meteorite is a purple two-by-two Resource Clump that may be placed on the Farm by a random night event. If the event succeeds, the next morning reports that an explosion was heard during the night. The meteor can be mined immediately if you have the required Pickaxe, or left permanently as part of the farm layout.

How Night Events Are Actually Grouped
The local 1.6.15 picker should not be summarized as one numbered list of “seven farm events.” It evaluates different categories and priorities:
- World-change and progression nights handle bundle/Joja repairs, the abandoned JojaMart opening, Willy's boat, and other scripted changes.
- Personal farm events include household or animal-related events selected through a separate personal-event picker.
- Random farm events include the Crop Fairy, Witch, meteorite, Stone Owl, Strange Capsule, and current-version additions when their own conditions pass.
A Void Chicken is not a separate night-event class. A Witch event may leave a Void Egg in a Coop, and that egg can later hatch into a Void Chicken. Counting both the Witch and “Void Chicken” double-counts one event and its possible outcome.
Meteorite Chance and Placement
The random farm-event picker uses a 1% meteorite roll after higher-priority checks. That is not a promise of one meteor every 100 nights: other events have priority, and the meteor still needs a valid open two-by-two placement area on the Farm.
Pickaxe Requirement and Exact Loot
The meteorite is resource-clump index 622. Its local tool check requires a Gold Pickaxe or Iridium Pickaxe; Copper and Steel Pickaxes are below the required upgrade level.
Destroying the meteorite creates these base drops:
- 10 Iridium Ore;
- 8 Stone; and
- 2 Omni Geodes.
The same destruction routine also contains a separate 25% Prismatic Shard roll. Because the meteor never decays, there is no deadline to upgrade the Pickaxe.
Iridium Ore Is Not Locked Behind Skull Cavern
Reaching the bottom of The Mines and opening Skull Cavern gives access to the best scalable Iridium farm, but it is not an exclusive prerequisite. A meteorite can provide Iridium before that route is complete, and local data contains several other independent sources.
| Source | Role |
|---|---|
| Meteorite | One-time farm clump with 10 Iridium Ore |
| Magma Geode and Omni Geode | Possible geode-processing result |
| Statue Of Perfection | Renewable daily source after earning the statue |
| Fish Ponds | Specific pond output rows can produce Iridium Ore |
| Traveling Cart | Possible rotating random stock, not a guaranteed visit |
| Quarry | Rare Iridium nodes can appear during daily quarry updates |
| Monster drops | Specific monsters and special variants can drop Iridium Ore |
| Skull Cavern | Best repeatable high-volume source; node chance improves with depth |
Keep It or Mine It?
Mine the meteor if you need its ore or if it blocks crops, paths, or buildings. Keep it if the placement works as farm decoration. Waiting has no loot penalty, so the decision is purely about resources and layout.
Bottom Line
The meteorite is one random farm event, not part of a mismatched seven-item taxonomy. Use a Gold-or-better Pickaxe for 10 Iridium Ore, 8 Stone, and 2 Omni Geodes, and remember that Skull Cavern is the scalable source—not the only way to obtain Iridium.
