THE COLOR RULE
Match the key to the chest in the same level
A Gray Key opens that level's Gray Chest; Red matches Red, Green matches Green, and Blue matches Blue. Chest colors are not unlocked globally, and a key from one level does not open a chest in another.

Finding the right color is only the first step. The route to a key or chest can change with the clock, treasure-driven level changes, and Wario's permanent abilities.
Match Day or Night
The overworld clock can change entrances, water, hazards, and routes. Set the finder to the time shown in your game.
Match the Variant
World-changing treasures can replace a level's room layout. Try the next variant if the displayed rooms do not match what you see.
Return with an Ability
Some routes need a permanent move such as Ground Pound, swimming, a stronger dash, or a higher jump.

Wario Land 3 chest and key questions
How do I open a Red, Blue, Green, or Gray Chest?
Pick up the key with exactly the same color in the current level, then take Wario to its matching chest. The pair belongs to that level; there is no permanent Red, Blue, Green, or Gray Chest permission.
Does every level have all four chest colors?
Yes. Each of the 25 main levels has one Gray, Red, Green, and Blue treasure slot: 4 per level and 100 in total.
Do I have to open the colors in Gray, Red, Green, Blue order?
No universal color order applies across the whole game. Reachability depends on your current abilities, world events, and level layout. If one route is blocked, another chest elsewhere may provide the needed change.
Why can I see several rooms for one key or chest?
A room can appear in more than one slot or state, and level layouts change as treasures alter the world. The room index lists every matching indexed appearance for the chosen Day or Night and Variant setting.
How do I know which map variant I have?
Start with Variant 1 on a new file. If the map does not match your game after collecting world-changing treasures, compare later variants or use the where-to-go-next finder to review changed layouts.
Does this finder work with Nintendo Switch Online?
