Stardew Valley Expanded Can’t Leave Farm: Safe Troubleshooting

Can’t leave an SVE farm: diagnose before reinstalling

Diagnostic scope: without the affected save and its SMAPI log, “missing files” is only one possible cause. Use the checks below to separate dependency, map, warp, configuration and save-specific failures.

Check your setup first

  1. Copy the save folder and the entire current Mods folder to a backup location.
  2. Record Stardew Valley, SMAPI, Stardew Valley Expanded and farm-map versions.
  3. Open the latest SMAPI log and retain the full error block around map loading or warp failure.
  4. Record every SVE dependency and look for duplicate folders or more than one farm replacement.
  5. Test whether the problem affects a new copied test save as well as the original save.

Common branches to distinguish

  • Missing dependency: the log names a required framework or content pack that did not load.
  • Duplicate install: two copies of SVE or a dependency patch the same assets.
  • Farm-map conflict: multiple map replacements target the Farm or its exits.
  • Version mismatch: the farm map and SVE release were built for different dependency versions.
  • Save-specific position or warp state: a clean new test works but the copied affected save does not.

Reversible isolation workflow

  1. Create a new empty test Mods directory or temporarily move mods into a clearly named backup folder.
  2. Install only the exact current SVE dependency set and one intended farm map.
  3. Launch through SMAPI and inspect the new log before opening the affected save.
  4. Test with a copied save. Reintroduce unrelated mods in small groups until the conflict returns.
  5. Preserve configuration files and custom content unless the specific mod’s upgrade instructions require replacing them.

Do not delete everything in Mods as a first step. A temporary move is reversible and retains configs, custom packs and the exact failing state needed for diagnosis.

Any final cause should cite the parsed log line and exact release combination that reproduces it.

Version: Stardew Valley Expanded 1.15.11. Exact troubleshooting still depends on the affected player's SMAPI log.
