Threat Matrix
Filter the threats that end runs
| Threat | Why it matters | Best answer | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyper Beam | High-damage Normal coverage appears on fast and bulky opponents. | Rock, Steel, Ghost immunity, or enough bulk to punish the recharge turn. | Jolteon, Kangaskhan, Miltank, Aerodactyl, Tauros-style pressure. |
| Earthquake | It deletes Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, and Steel plans that lack a pivot. | Flying types, bulky neutral switch-ins, or faster KO pressure. | Kangaskhan, Aerodactyl, Miltank, Marowak, Rhydon-style sets. |
| Toxic and Psych Up | Several sets can turn a slow win into a timer loss. | Rest, Heal Bell support, Substitute, fast pressure, or status-immune Poison/Steel where useful. | Espeon, Umbreon, Miltank, defensive Normal and Psychic sets. |
| Wobbuffet | Counter, Mirror Coat, Safeguard, and Destiny Bond punish autopilot attacks. | Alternate damage categories, use setup/status carefully, and avoid obvious finishing hits into Destiny Bond. | Especially awkward in low-level brackets. |
| Thunderbolt and Blizzard | Special coverage can hit Water/Flying, Dragon/Flying, Ground, and Grass answers unexpectedly. | Check shared weaknesses before locking your trio; carry a special sponge or faster revenge option. | Lapras, Jolteon, Starmie, mixed coverage users. |
| Thick Club Marowak | Marowak can turn one free turn into a knockout. | Water, Grass, Ice, Flying immunity to Earthquake, or immediate special pressure. | Do not leave Electric or Rock types exposed. |
| Leftovers and Gold Berry | Bulky opponents may survive damage ranges that worked in story fights. | Use boosting, Toxic, high-accuracy super-effective damage, or a clearer 2HKO plan. | Duplicate Leftovers is illegal for you, but opponents can still be annoying. |
| MiracleBerry and Mint Berry | One status turn may not stick, and Rest users can wake immediately. | Do not spend the only status plan before confirming the item; keep direct damage ready. | Fast attackers with MiracleBerry, Rest users with Mint Berry. |

Held Items
One job per item
- Leftovers: best on the Pokemon expected to stay in repeatedly.
- MiracleBerry: protects a key attacker from one status problem.
- Mint Berry: pairs with Rest when one immediate wake-up changes the run.
- Gold Berry: gives emergency HP without spending a turn.
- Thick Club: only for Marowak, but it can define the physical slot.
- Quick Claw or BrightPowder: useful only when you accept their inconsistency.

FAQ
Battle Tower quick answers
Can I heal between battles?
Yes. The entered Pokemon are restored between battles, but bag items are not available during the actual fights.
Can two Pokemon hold Leftovers?
No. Duplicate held items are not legal for the entered trio, so Leftovers needs one assigned owner.
Why does a story team lose here?
The Tower compresses the team to three slots, removes bag items, and throws serious held-item and coverage sets at you for seven battles.
Is the Japanese version different?
Yes. Japanese Crystal originally used Mobile System GB context. Western releases keep a normal accessible Battle Tower.
