Glitch Safety Tool
The Celebi Egg glitch is real in Crystal, but it belongs on a backed-up save
Use this page to choose the least risky Celebi route, separate the GS Ball event from the GS Ball item, and decide whether your bad-clone setup is safe enough to continue.
Fast Answer
Possible, documented, and save-sensitive
The Celebi Egg glitch can create an Egg that hatches into Celebi in Pokemon Crystal, but it is not the same as receiving the official GS Ball event. It uses a malformed clone and party data shifting. If boxes, names, Pokedex data, or the Day Care begin acting strangely, stop and restore instead of saving over the file.
Route Picker
Pick the result you actually want
After the Hall of Fame, VC Crystal can enable the GS Ball event path. This is the cleanest route if your copy and transfer tools are already available.
Risk: low for the save; availability depends on prior VC, Bank, and Transporter access.Saved Checklist
Do not continue until these are true
Goal Matrix
Celebi, GS Ball, and event flags are different
| Goal | Best route | Status | Save warning |

Move Mapping
Why players mention Beat Up and Reflect
- Beat Up: in Crystal's move constants, Beat Up is `$fb`, the same numeric slot as Celebi in the Pokemon constants.
- Reflect: Reflect is `$73`, matching the GS Ball item slot in the item constants.
- Egg: the glitch route works by making party data read like Egg and Pokemon data, which is why bad clones matter.
- Payload caution: do not paste an old move list or box-name setup unless it matches your exact game and source.
Stop Rules
Reload instead of saving if these appear
- Party screen becomes white, unselectable, or loops unexpectedly.
- Box names, trainer name, or Pokedex data change in a way you did not intend.
- The Day Care freezes, refuses normal Pokemon, or keeps showing stale state.
- You produced a GS Ball-like item but Kurt and the shrine do not follow the event path.
Troubleshooter
What problem are you trying to solve?
Many weird clones are not useful Celebi Egg clones. If the clone does not match the setup you are following, restore and try on a disposable file instead of forcing the next step.
Safer Alternatives
Use a cleaner route when the goal is only Celebi
VC GS Ball event
Best fit for a clean Crystal Celebi if the 3DS Virtual Console copy and transfer tools are already available.
Disposable Gen II save
Best fit when you want to explore bad-clone behavior without risking your main Crystal file.
Cheat-code test
Best fit for emulator experimentation when you accept that it is a cheat route, not an in-game glitch route.
Save backup first
Best fit for any advanced route. The first successful step is proving that restore works.
