Shiny Celebi Hunt Tool
Save before the Ilex Forest shrine, then reset the battle
Pokemon Crystal's official 3DS Virtual Console GS Ball Celebi can be shiny. The hunt is full odds at 1/8192, and the correct save is after Kurt gives the GS Ball back, standing in front of the Ilex Forest shrine before you press A.
Fast Answer
Yes, but only start after the platform check
The clean hunt is the official 3DS Virtual Console route. Original Western Game Boy Color cartridges do not normally give the GS Ball at Goldenrod, and a ROM or save tool setup is not the same as the VC hunt. If you care about moving the result forward, confirm Poke Transporter, Pokemon Bank, and Pokemon HOME Premium before spending weeks resetting.

Search the setup steps
| Step | Location | Action | Hunt risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pokemon League | Enter the Hall of Fame on the official 3DS VC release. | Wrong platform means no normal GS Ball route. |
| 2 | Goldenrod Pokemon Center | Walk toward the exit and receive the GS Ball. | If nothing triggers, recheck Hall of Fame and version. |
| 3 | Kurt's house | Give Kurt the GS Ball, then wait for the day change. | Do not reset your hunt from before this wait. |
| 4 | Azalea Town | Recover the GS Ball when Kurt runs outside. | The shiny is not rolled yet. |
| 5 | Ilex Forest shrine | Bring Cut access, put your catcher first, and save before pressing A. | This is the save to keep. |
| 6 | Celebi battle | Check sparkle at battle start, then reset or catch. | Never save after an unwanted non-shiny battle. |
| 7 | Transfer chain | Move only when you are sure: Crystal VC to Poke Transporter to Bank to HOME Premium. | The move forward is one-way. |
Saved Checklist
Confirm the hunt before the first reset
Capture Safety
Plan for a level 30 Celebi before it sparkles
Use the Master Ball if you want the safest finish. If you prefer another ball, avoid poison, burn, and recoil, and bring enough healing to handle Future Sight turns. Sleep and paralysis can help, but Safeguard and Heal Bell can interrupt status plans.
Transfer Reality
Do not assume the forward path works on every 3DS
Crystal VC
New 3DS eShop purchases are closed, so this route is for players who already own or can redownload the official VC title.
Poke Transporter and Bank
Bank remains usable at no cost for now, but Bank and Poke Transporter are not available as new downloads.
Pokemon HOME
Moving from Bank to HOME requires Pokemon HOME Premium and is one-way. Keep Celebi in Crystal if that save matters to you.
FAQ
Short answers for the shiny hunt
Is Celebi shiny locked in Crystal VC?
No. The shrine battle can be shiny, and each reset from the shrine save starts another chance.
Can I improve the odds?
No. Normal Crystal has no Shiny Charm, chain bonus, sandwich, or pity timer. The useful improvement is a consistent reset rhythm.
Should I save after a non-shiny appears?
No. Reset from the shrine save. Saving after the battle begins can lock in an unwanted outcome or end the one-chance encounter.
Is 8192 resets enough?
It is the odds denominator, not a deadline. Around 8192 resets is only about a 63.2% cumulative chance.
