Seven daily fruit trees feed Azalea Town’s craftsman Kurt. Hand him one Apricorn, wait until the next real-time day, and pick up a Level, Lure, Moon, Friend, Fast, Heavy, or Love Ball. Beat the Rockets in Slowpoke Well, return to Kurt’s House in Azalea for a free Lure Ball, then bring any Apricorn color. Kurt crafts one ball per Apricorn and needs a full RTC day (the daily flag clears with fruit trees). Trees: Route 37 Red / Blu / Blk, Azalea Wht, Route 42 Pnk / Grn / Ylw. Each tree yields one fruit per day. After you pick it, the tree stays empty until the daily flags roll with the RTC—same cycle as berries. Gold and Silver share the same tree set.

- Grn → Friend Ball (tile ~28, 16)
- Ylw → Moon Ball (tile ~29, 16)
- East of Ecruteak toward Mahogany. Route 42 has no Rock Smash event; reach the trees by the normal route/cave path or Surf access.

Friend Ball detail
Caught Pokémon start at friendship 200, far above the usual wild ~70. Use it on normal wild species with friendship evolutions such as Golbat or Chansey. Eevee has no wild encounter in original Gold/Silver, so Friend Ball cannot accelerate a “wild Eevee”; Bill’s gift is already in your party.
Heavy Ball weight bands
Catch-rate adjustment (not a pure multiplier): under 102.4 kg −20; under 204.8 kg +0; under 307.2 kg +20; under 409.6 kg +30; 409.6 kg and up +40. Only nine species clear the +20 band on G/S dex weights—use the calculator below.

Kurt ball bugs you should know
Moon Ball
Guide text promises a boost on Moon Stone evolvers, but on English Gold and Silver the boost never applies. Treat Moon Ball as a normal ball for catch rate.
Fast Ball
Intended for fleers and roamers, but only three species actually get the ×4 bonus: Magnemite, Grimer, and Tangela. Raikou, Entei, and Suicune do not.
Love Ball
Intended ×8 for opposite gender, same species. On cartridge the ×8 applies when genders match instead. That can boost a same-species, same-gender wild catch, but same-gender Pokémon cannot form the Day Care breeding pair the original wording recommended.
These quirks match original Gold and Silver (Game Boy Color), not HeartGold / SoulSilver. Crystal uses the same catch behavior for these three balls.
Workflow
How Kurt’s service works
Unlock order
- Reach Azalea and talk to Kurt—he runs to Slowpoke Well.
- Clear the well Rockets, then return to his house.
- Receive the free Lure Ball and unlock Apricorn crafting.
- Give one Apricorn color; Kurt sets the “making balls” daily flag.
- Come back after the next RTC day for exactly one ball of that type.
Planning tips
- Stock Red Apricorns before long overlevel hunts (Level Ball).
- Farm Blu before serious fishing sessions (Lure Ball).
- Prioritize Grn when preparing friendship evolutions or Return users.
- Fly back to Azalea each morning with the day calendar in mind.
- Kurt is busy while the flag is set—finish the wait before submitting another color.

FAQ
Common Apricorn questions
How long does Kurt take?
One real-time day. The engine sets a daily flag when you give him an Apricorn; after midnight on the cartridge RTC (or emulator clock), he finishes exactly one ball matching that color.
Can Kurt take a whole stack at once?
No—on original Gold and Silver he accepts one Apricorn color selection and returns one ball. Crystal-style bulk crafting is not available here.
Do trees differ between Gold and Silver?
No. Fruit and Apricorn tree tables are shared. Version exclusives affect wild Pokémon, not Kurt’s colors.
Is Friend Ball good for Bill’s Eevee?
No—Bill’s gift is already in your party. Use Friend Ball on wild catches you plan to friendship-evolve, or raise gift Eevee with haircuts / walking via the friendship tools.
Should I use Moon Balls or Fast Balls for legendaries?
Not for catch rate on original G/S. Moon Ball never boosts; Fast Ball does not hit the beast flee table as intended. Prefer Ultra Balls, Timer Balls are not in G/S, or status + True level strategies. See the legendary guide.
Where is Kurt if he is not home?
Before the well is cleared he runs to Slowpoke Well. While crafting he appears as the “busy” Kurt sprite in the house and refuses new orders until the daily flag clears.
