WARIO LAND 3 GUIDE

Music Boxes and Day/Night Cycle

Music Boxes and Day/Night Cycle

Wario Land 3’s world lives inside a music box. Progress is gated by five colored Music Boxes that permanently reshape the overworld, plus the Day or Night Spell that flips every level between two layouts. Use the finder below to mark what you already own, jump to the exact chest map, and see which routes open next.

Gold Music Box

THE MUSIC BOX RULE

Collect all 5 Music Boxes for the ending; use the Day or Night Spell to flip the clock

Yellow, Blue, Green, Red, and Gold form the main-story set. Four of them open new overworld routes when played. The Day or Night Spell from The Peaceful Village Blue Chest lets you switch day and night from the overworld top bar so keys, enemies, and chests appear in the matching time state.

OVERWORLD ROUTE UNLOCKS

What each Music Box changes on the map

Playing a Music Box after you open its chest runs a permanent overworld scene. Four boxes open new level connections; all five count toward the temple ending set.

Music Box Chest Level Opens Map
Yellow Music Box Gray S1 The Grasslands The Big Bridge from The Grasslands Chest map
Blue Music Box Red W4 A Town in Chaos Bank of the Wild River and The Tidal Coast in the North Chest map
Green Music Box Gray N6 Sea Turtle Rocks Cave of Flames from The Big Bridge Chest map
Red Music Box Green E1 The Stagnant Swamp Beneath the Waves from The Pool of Rain Chest map
Gold Music Box Blue N1 Out of the Woods Required for the five-box temple ending set Chest map
Main story clear: Recover all five Music Boxes and defeat the Hidden Figure. Perfect completion then needs all 100 treasures before Time Attack unlocks on the overworld.

DAY AND NIGHT CYCLE

How day and night work in Wario Land 3

Every one of the 25 levels stores separate day and night room states. Some keys, enemies, platforms, and even whole chests only appear in one time. The Day or Night Spell adds the overworld control that flips the clock without waiting for an automatic timer.

Day Or Night Spell

Day or Night Spell

Blue Chest in N2 The Peaceful Village. After you own it, the overworld top bar can run the day/night transition and switch the world clock.

Sun

Day layouts

Use day when a guide or map link says Day. Many early Gray and Red chests are mapped on day Variant 1, including the Gold Music Box in Out of the Woods.

Moon

Night layouts

Night can move keys, hide platforms, or place a chest that day maps do not show. Always match the map link’s Day or Night setting to your overworld clock before hunting.

Sun Medallion Top

East map lock

On the East overworld, day/night will not flip until both Sun Medallion pieces are collected: top half in N6 Sea Turtle Rocks (Green Chest), bottom half in W1 Desert Ruins (Blue Chest).

Map states stack: each level has day and night, and collected treasures can also change a level’s layout variant. A missing key may need a different variant as well as the correct day or night.

FASTEST WAY TO USE THIS PAGE

Turn a missing Music Box into one chest target

1

Mark what you already own

Tick the five Music Boxes and the Day or Night Spell. Filter to “Still missing” when you only need one more for the temple or a blocked route.

2

Open the matching chest map

Each card links to the same-color key and chest rooms. Set Day or Night first. Use Variant 2 for the Red Music Box in The Stagnant Swamp.

3

Play the box on the overworld

After the chest opens, leave the level and let the Music Box scene run. Confirm the new path on the world map, then chase the next missing box.

IF YOU STILL FEEL STUCK

Separate ending boxes from day/night gates

1

Wrong time of day

Keys and chests can sit only in day or only in night. Grab the Day or Night Spell early from The Peaceful Village Blue Chest and flip the clock before re-entering the level.

2

East clock will not flip

Finish both Sun Medallion pieces before expecting free day/night control on the East map. Elsewhere, the spell works as soon as you own it.

3

Route still closed after a box

Yellow, Blue, Green, and Red open specific paths. Gold is still needed for the five-box ending set even when it does not open a new mid-game road.

FAQ

Music Boxes, day/night, and ending questions

How many Music Boxes are in Wario Land 3?

Five: Yellow, Blue, Green, Red, and Gold. They are treasures in the 100-item catalog and the main-story set the Hidden Figure asks you to recover.

How do I change day and night?

Collect the Day or Night Spell from the Blue Chest in The Peaceful Village. On the overworld, use the day/night control to flip the world clock. Enter levels only after the clock matches the layout you need.

Where is each Music Box?

Yellow is S1 The Grasslands Gray Chest, Blue is W4 A Town in Chaos Red Chest, Green is N6 Sea Turtle Rocks Gray Chest, Red is E1 The Stagnant Swamp Green Chest, and Gold is N1 Out of the Woods Blue Chest.

Why does the East map ignore the day/night switch?

The East overworld keeps the clock locked until both Sun Medallion halves are collected. Top half: Sea Turtle Rocks Green Chest. Bottom half: Desert Ruins Blue Chest.

What is required for the true / main ending?

Main story clear needs all five Music Boxes and the Hidden Figure fight. Perfect completion after that needs all 100 treasures, which then enables Time Attack.

Are Music Boxes the same as Musical Coins?

No. Music Boxes are five story treasures. Musical Coins are eight collectibles inside each of the 25 levels (200 total) and feed completion goals such as Golf Building Course 4.
