Phone rematch directory & swarm callers

Browse all 28 registerable trainer numbers in original Pokémon Gold & Silver, preview their story-selected party variants, and plan the trainer portion of the 10-contact list. Mom and Elm permanently occupy two entries, so only 8 trainers fit—or 7 while keeping Bill. Built for the original Game Boy Color carts, with all six swarm callers.

How phone rematches work

Beat a phone trainer once, register their number, keep them in one of the 8 trainer-available slots (7 if Bill stays), wait for a call that sets READY_FOR_REMATCH, then return and talk. The map script chooses a party from story flags; repeated calls do not advance a sequential tier counter. Several early callers stay quiet until the Goldenrod flypoint.

Trainer slots: 0 / 8 · Mom + Elm fixed

The physical list has 10 entries, but this planner tracks trainers only: Mom and Elm are permanent, leaving 8. Bill is deletable but consumes one of those remaining entries while kept. Planner state stays in this browser.

No trainers match that filter. Clear search or pick All.

Random ANYTIME calls

All six phone swarms

Only one swarm is active at a time, lasting until daily flags reset. Register the matching caller, answer their swarm call, then hunt on the listed map/method. Fishing swarms pair with the rod tables; grass/cave swarms show up in the wild locations tool.

Pokégear phone rules (Gold & Silver)

10 total · 8 trainer slots

The list holds 10 entries, but Mom and Elm are permanent and non-deletable. That leaves 8 trainers; keeping Bill leaves 7. With 28 trainers available, rotate numbers deliberately.

ANYTIME schedule

All 28 Gold/Silver phone contacts use ANYTIME for both outgoing and incoming windows—no morning-only phone trainers on these carts.

Goldenrod fly gate

Several early-route callers withhold rematch requests until the Goldenrod flypoint flag is available (you can Fly there). Swarm/contest specials still matter for planning who to keep.

Story-selected parties

READY_FOR_REMATCH only starts the encounter. The trainer’s map script chooses its party using progress flags such as flypoints, Radio Tower, Elite Four, or restored Kanto power; repeated calls do not increment a tier counter.

Not Crystal gifts

Crystal’s evolution-stone phone gifts are absent here. G/S phones are rematches, swarms, and Bug Contest reminders only.

FAQ

Common phone questions

How many phone numbers can I keep?

Ten contacts total, not ten trainers. Mom and Elm are permanent, so you can keep at most eight trainer numbers. If you also keep Bill, only seven trainer slots remain.

How do I start a rematch?

Register the trainer after their first battle, keep their number, wait for a call that sets READY_FOR_REMATCH, then talk to them on their map. Their party is chosen by current story flags, not by how many rematches you have already completed.

Which callers announce swarms?

Ralph (Qwilfish), Anthony (Dunsparce), Arnie (Yanma), Chad (Snubbull), Wilton (Remoraid), and Parry (Marill). Only one swarm runs at a time until the daily reset.

Who reminds me about the Bug-Catching Contest?

Bug Catcher Wade (Route 31) and Pokéfan Derek (Route 39) can call with contest reminders on the National Park schedule (Tue/Thu/Sat).

Is this the same as Crystal’s phone system?

No. Crystal adds gift-item calls (evolution stones, etc.). This directory only covers original Gold and Silver rematch, swarm, and contest phone contacts.

Does this work for HeartGold/SoulSilver?

No. HGSS rematch and Pokégear rules differ. This page is for the original Game Boy Color Gold and Silver cartridges only.

Tips

Smart trainer-slot loadouts

Dex completion

Keeping Ralph, Anthony, Arnie, Chad, Wilton, and Parry uses six of your eight trainer slots, leaving two for rematches or contest pings. If you keep Bill, only one trainer slot remains.

Money grinding

Later story-selected party variants usually pay more and field higher levels. Sort by highest listed party level and keep high-pay Cooltrainers when you need cash for TMs or Game Corner prizes.

Nuzlocke outbreaks

Decide whether swarm routes count as separate encounters before you answer the call. The Nuzlocke tracker and wild locations tools help document the route.

Emulator RTC

Incoming trainers are sampled from eligible ANYTIME contacts; daily flags and cooldown resets still need a working RTC. If calls never arrive, check RTC support and the Goldenrod fly gate for early-route trainers.
