Wild encounter finder · Original GBC Gold / Silver

Where every wild Pokémon actually spawns

Search grass, caves, Surf, Headbutt, Rock Smash, phone swarms, and roamers across Johto and Kanto. Tables are version-split for original Gold and Silver—not Crystal, not HeartGold/SoulSilver—with time-of-day grass slots, rates, levels, and one-click map / Pokédex links. Fishing rods live in their own tool so rod tiers stay accurate.

Fast answer

Search species first, then verify method and cart

1. Type a Pokémon name (or a route like Route 34 / Mt. Silver).
2. Set Gold or Silver—exclusives and several shared routes diverge.
3. Read method (grass vs Surf vs Headbutt) and time for grass tables (morning 04:00–09:59, day 10:00–17:59, night 18:00–03:59).
4. Open the map deep link, then log the catch in the Catch checklist or Nuzlocke tracker.
5. For rods, use the fishing tool. Static legendaries and gifts are listed under “Not a normal wild table.”

No tables match these filters. Clear the search, switch Gold/Silver, or reset methods.

Grass rates show morning/day/night encounter chances for the map. Species percentages are the highest slot-sum for that species on the table. Surf and Headbutt do not use three clock bands the same way grass does—time filters still help when a species only appears in one grass band.

Low-rate / limited tables

Rare wild finds worth planning

Tip: Chansey, Larvitar, Dunsparce, Yanma swarms, and Headbutt Heracross are common search targets. Pair this list with the rare Pokémon tool for gifts, Game Corner prizes, and transfer-only targets.

Legendaries & roamers

Ho-Oh, Lugia, and the beasts use story triggers and roaming AI—not fixed grass percentages. Use the legendary guide and roamer rows in this tool after Burned Tower.

Time Capsule imports

Kanto starters, fossils, birds, and Mewtwo never appear on Gold/Silver overworld tables. Plan trades with the Time Capsule guide and Trade Planner.

Gifts & static events

Eevee, Togepi, Tyrogue, Red Gyarados, Lapras Friday, and Sudowoodo are scripted encounters. Jump to their dedicated guides instead of grinding random grass.

Fishing tables

Old / Good / Super Rod odds, Corsola vs Staryu day-night rolls, Dratini groups, and Qwilfish/Remoraid swarms are maintained on the fishing page.

FAQ

Common location questions

Where is Ditto for breeding?

Route 34 and Route 35 grass on both versions. Search “Ditto,” then pair with the Day Care breeding guide.

Where is Mareep?

Route 32, 42, and 43 grass on both Gold and Silver. Crystal changes several early routes—if a Crystal guide says Mareep is missing, ignore it for original G/S and use this tool’s version toggle instead.

Where is Larvitar?

Mt. Silver interior grass after the mountain unlock. Larvitar’s relevant tables are identical in morning, day, and night, so there is no clock-band advantage.

Where is Skarmory?

Silver exclusive on Route 45 grass. Gold players need a trade or the Gligar / Donphan side of that route instead.

Do Headbutt trees share one table?

No. Forest, canyon, and city tree sets differ, and some maps flag rare vs common trees. Use the Headbutt filter here, then the dedicated Heracross tree guide for Azalea / Route 42 routing.

Is this HeartGold data?

No. Encounter rows are original Game Boy Color Gold and Silver. Remakes change levels, methods, and several locations—do not mix the two.
