Fast Answer

Field HMs first, then gym TMs

Progression order most runners want: Flash (optional, Rock Tunnel) → Cut (S.S. Anne) → Fly (Route 16) → Strength (Warden) → Surf (Safari Secret House). Then pick gym TMs as you clear badges—especially TM24 Thunderbolt from Lt. Surge. Search the full table below for every machine.

TM24 Thunderbolt

Lt. Surge’s Vermilion Gym reward. In Yellow, partner Pikachu also learns Thunderbolt at level 26, so keep the TM for Jolteon, Zapdos, or another Electric if you want.

TM26 Earthquake

Silph Co. 10F pickup—one of the best physical TMs for Nidoking, Rhydon, and other ground cores after you liberate Silph.

Gym bundle

Brock TM34 Bide, Misty TM11 BubbleBeam, Erika TM21 Mega Drain, Koga TM06 Toxic, Sabrina TM46 Psywave, Blaine TM38 Fire Blast, Giovanni TM27 Fissure—check each gym page for the fight first.

FAQ

TM and HM questions

Where are all TMs in Pokemon Yellow?

Use the searchable table on this page for TM01–TM50. Sources include map pickups, gym leaders, gifts, Celadon Mart, roof drinks, and Game Corner prizes.

Where do I get each HM?

Cut — S.S. Anne captain. Fly — Route 16 house. Surf — Safari Zone Secret House. Strength — Fuchsia warden (Gold Teeth). Flash — Route 2 gate aide.

How do I get Thunderbolt?

Defeat Lt. Surge for TM24. Partner Pikachu can also learn Thunderbolt at level 26 without spending the TM.

Can I reuse TMs?

No. TMs are consumed on use. HMs can be taught repeatedly and enable field actions with the matching badge.

Which TMs are easy to miss?

Silph Co. floors, Safari Zone wings, Victory Road, Power Plant, and Celadon roof exchanges are common misses. Filter the table by pickup or gift if you are cleanup-sweeping.

Do I need Moon Stone locations too?

Moon Stone is an evolution item, not a TM. Find it in the Item Database under evolution stones and Mt. Moon / other pickups.
