The Tidal Coast (N5) opens with N4 after you play the Blue Music Box. Use the finder below for every Gray, Red, Green, and Blue chest and all eight Musical Coins—with exact room-map links for Day/Night and each map variant. First priority is the Gray Chest Yellow Book, which pairs with N4’s Trident to open The Steep Canyon.
FIRST CLEAR PRIORITY
Open the Gray Chest for the Yellow Book, then pair it with the Trident
Carry the Gray Key to the Gray Chest and take the Yellow Book. Combined with the Trident from N4 Bank of the Wild River, it calls lightning over the canyon and opens S4 The Steep Canyon from The Big Bridge. Come back later for Foot of Stone, Electric Fan Propeller, Green Gem, and Musical Coins.

NORTH COAST ROUTE
How The Tidal Coast fits the mid-game path
Unlock N5
Collect the Blue Music Box in W4 A Town in Chaos, play it on the overworld, then enter The Tidal Coast from the North coast path (same unlock as N4).
Yellow Book + Trident
Grab N5 Yellow Book and N4 Trident (order flexible). Together they call lightning and open S4 The Steep Canyon from The Big Bridge.
Later north push
Garlic (S3 Red Chest) clears the path from The Tidal Coast to N6 Sea Turtle Rocks and powers Wario’s dash for more coastal routes.
MAP VARIANTS · DAY & NIGHT
When The Tidal Coast layout changes
N5 has four progression variants on both Day and Night. Variant 1 is available once the Blue Music Box opens the level. Later variants open after you collect specific treasures elsewhere:
| Variant | Requirements | Notes | Map |
|---|---|---|---|
| V1 | None (level open via Blue Music Box) | Default first visit. Grab the Yellow Book here. | Open Day map |
| V2 | Grab Glove (S4 Gray Chest) | Grab ability opens extra coastal routes and object moves. | Open Day map |
| V3 | Statue (N4 Green Chest) | Statue-linked layout for deeper N5 revisits. | Open Day map |
| V4 | Sapling of Growth (W4 Blue Chest) | Late-game layout for remaining N5 routes and clean-up. | Open Day map |
FIRST VISIT ROUTE
What to do in The Tidal Coast on the first clear
Enter from the North coast
After the Blue Music Box event, walk the North shore into N5. You can do N4 and N5 in either order once both are open.
Gray Key → Yellow Book
Hunt the Gray Key in the coastal room family (rooms 0, 7, 9, 20, 27), open the Gray Chest, leave with the Yellow Book, and pair it with the Trident for Steep Canyon.
Revisit N5 later
Come back for Foot of Stone, Electric Fan Propeller, Green Gem, and Musical Coins when Grab Glove, Statue, or Sapling of Growth unlock remaining rooms.
FAQ
The Tidal Coast FAQ
How do you unlock The Tidal Coast?
Play the Blue Music Box from W4 A Town in Chaos (Red Chest). That overworld event opens N4 Bank of the Wild River and N5 The Tidal Coast together on the North map.
How do I open the Gray / Grey Chest in The Tidal Coast?
Find the matching Gray Key in the coastal room set (rooms 0, 7, 9, 20, or 27 depending on map state), carry it to the Gray Chest in the same room family, and open it for the Yellow Book.
What does the Yellow Book do in Wario Land 3?
The Yellow Book pairs with the Trident from N4 Bank of the Wild River. Together they call lightning over the canyon and open S4 The Steep Canyon from The Big Bridge—an important mid-game South route.
What does the Foot of Stone do?
It unlocks Variant 2 of The Stagnant Swamp and The Steep Canyon, plus Variant 4 of The Volcano’s Base. It is a strong mid-game layout key rather than a brand-new overworld road.
What does the Electric Fan Propeller do?
It unlocks Variant 4 of A Town in Chaos for late West revisits. Grab it when you are cleaning up W4 or working remaining West treasures.
How many Musical Coins are in The Tidal Coast?
Eight—the same as every other level. Use the coin table above or the full Musical Coins Finder if you are missing one for 100% side goals.
Is The Tidal Coast required for the ending?
The Yellow Book is an important mid-game route item for Steep Canyon access with the Trident. The other N5 treasures support variants, Perfect completion, and 100% clean-up rather than the five Music Box temple ending set itself.
How do I reach Sea Turtle Rocks after The Tidal Coast?
Collect Garlic from the Red Chest in S3 Tower of Revival. Garlic powers Wario’s dash and opens the northern path from The Tidal Coast to N6 Sea Turtle Rocks.
