Moon Stone

- Visible ball: Tohjo Falls tile (2, 6) on the way to Kanto (Surf / Waterfall route).
- Repeatable weekly: on Monday night, watch the Clefairy dance in Mount Moon Square, use Rock Smash on the spawned rock, then inspect tile (7, 7). The daily dance flag resets, so another Moon Stone is available the next Monday night—see the week calendar.
- Mom: With savings management on, Mom can buy a Moon Stone after total savings reach ₽15,000 (costs ₽3,000) in Player’s House 1F.
- Wild 2% rare hold: only wild Clefairy is a normal farming source. Cleffa is egg-only, and Clefable has no normal wild encounter in original G/S.
- Evolves: Nidorina → Nidoqueen, Nidorino → Nidoking, Clefairy → Clefable, Jigglypuff → Wigglytuff.

Bug Contest 1st place
- Only regular source: Win 1st place in the Bug-Catching Contest at National Park.
- Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday — full rules on the contest tool and Mechanics Lab.
- Repeatable: Enter again on the next contest day for another Sun Stone.
- Evolves: Gloom → Bellossom, Sunkern → Sunflora.
Route 25 quest
Bill’s grandpa gift order
Reach Kanto after the Elite Four (S.S. Aqua). Bill’s House is east on Route 25 past Cerulean. Show the exact species listed—evolutions usually fail the check. The game only hands out one gift per house visit; leave and re-enter between rewards.

Reward: Everstone (not an evolution stone, but required first).
Oddish
Reward: Leaf Stone.
Staryu
Reward: Water Stone.
GrowlitheVulpix
Reward: Fire Stone. Version exclusive show mon.
Pichu
Reward: Thunderstone. Quest complete.
Leave between gifts
After each item, grandpa is done until you exit Bill’s House and come back. Bag-full fails do not set the got-item flag—free a slot and talk again.
Version exclusives
Gold players can catch Growlithe on Routes 36–38 for this request. Vulpix requires a trade from Silver.
Silver players can catch Vulpix on Routes 36–38 for this request. Growlithe requires a trade from Gold.

Common questions
Can I buy Fire Stone in Goldenrod or Celadon?
No. Item attributes list a sell price for some stones, but no mart stock table sells them. Use Bill’s grandpa or Mystery Gift.
Why won’t Bill’s grandpa take my Pokémon?
It must be the exact species (Lickitung, Oddish, Staryu, Growlithe/Vulpix, Pichu)—not the evolved form. Completing previous steps is required. After a successful gift, leave the house before the next request.
How do I get a second Fire Stone for both Arcanine and Flareon?
Bill’s gift is one-time. Extra classic stones only come from Mystery Gift randomness or trading with another cartridge. Plan which mon gets the guaranteed stone first.
Is this the same as HeartGold / SoulSilver?
No. HGSS remakes change item distribution, Pokéathlon, and overworld structure. This page is original Game Boy Color Gold & Silver only.
Where should I spend stones for a first playthrough team?
