Push two Strength boulders from 1F through B3F so they pin the B4F current, then Surf to optional Articuno (Lv.50). Track every drop, open floor maps, estimate catch odds, and grab the three hidden items on the way to Cinnabar.

Enter Seafoam from Route 20. Use Strength to drop both boulders through holes on 1F → B1F → B2F → B3F. When both rest on B4F, the central current no longer blocks you—Surf to Articuno or continue toward Cinnabar Island.

Two lanes rule
Keep the left and right boulders in their own shafts. Mixing them or wedging one against a wall can soft-lock the drop sequence until you leave and re-enter floors carefully.
Follow each drop
After you push a boulder into a hole, go down after it on the next floor before finishing the twin. The puzzle expects both stones on B4F.
B3F decoys
Extra boulder sprites on B3F are obstacles, not the pair you have been carrying from 1F. Push only the two that fell through the shafts.
Current still pushes?
If Surf still forces you off B4F, at least one boulder never finished the chain. Backtrack floors and re-check holes before burning balls on Articuno.

Reward from the Safari Zone Secret House. Soul Badge (Koga) allows Surf outside battle. Required for Route 20 water and B4F crossing.

From the Fuchsia Warden after returning his gold teeth. Rainbow Badge (Erika) enables outdoor Strength for Seafoam boulders.

Seafoam Islands B4F static
One overworld battle. It opens with Ice Beam + Peck and cannot gain experience or level during the fight, so it will remain Lv.50 and will not learn Blizzard mid-battle. Save before talking to it.
Default Max HP 158 uses HP DV 8 and zero Stat Exp. A fresh Lv.50 Articuno with base HP 90 can legally range from 150–165 HP.
Status first
Sleep (+25 catch check bonus) beats poison/burn/paralyze. Articuno cannot be frozen by Ice-type freeze effects because it is Ice-type. False Swipe is not in Yellow—chip carefully with weak moves.
Ultra Ball default
Stock from Celadon Department Store or the B4F hidden Ultra Ball. Master Ball also works if you saved it for this bird.

Tips
Clear faster
Heal before B4F
No Pokemon Center inside Seafoam. Use Cinnabar or Fuchsia, stock Super/Hyper Potions, and bring Escape Rope for a bad boulder run.
Electric answers
Articuno is Ice/Flying—Thunderbolt/Thunder and Rock Slide (TM48) hit hard. Avoid Ice and Water spam into it.
Optional bird
You can leave Articuno for post-game or skip it. Story only needs the water route open toward Cinnabar and Blaine.

How do I get Articuno in Pokemon Yellow?
Solve the dual-boulder current puzzle in Seafoam Islands, Surf B4F, and battle the Lv.50 static Articuno. It is optional for the story.
What HMs do I need for Seafoam?

Why does the water keep pushing me?
The B4F current stays active until both puzzle boulders finish every floor drop and rest on B4F.
What is Articuno’s catch rate?
Catch rate 3—among the hardest wild catches. Prefer sleep, low HP, and Ultra or Master Balls. Ice-type freeze effects fail against Articuno. Use the calculator above.
Is Articuno required to beat the game?
No. Clear the currents for routing if needed, then continue to Cinnabar Island and Blaine without catching the bird.
