Unlocking the Quarry
The Quarry is located to the far right on the map where Robin’s Carpenter Shop is found. There are two primary methods to repair the broken bridge that grants access to the Quarry.
- Community Center Approach: Complete the Crafts Room bundles in the Community Center. The materials needed are generally forageable items, making this quite accessible.
- JojaMart Approach: Spend 25,000g at JojaMart to purchase a Bridge Repair. This is much faster if you have the gold to spare.
There’s also an unofficial third method: exploiting a bug where you can cross the broken bridge by placing a chair, although this isn’t recommended.
Quarry Mechanics
Despite its name, the Quarry isn’t the most effective location for extensive mining.
- Slow Spawn Rate: On average, only about four stones will spawn per day, making it significantly slower than the Mines.
- Independent Spawn Points: Each spot in the Quarry has its own spawn rate, making it more challenging to predict the type and amount of stones or gems that will appear.
- Mining Skill Doesn’t Matter: The spawn rate for ores and gem nodes is not influenced by your mining skill level.
The Quarry vs. The Farm’s Mining Node
While the Quarry may not be as efficient as the Mines, it does have one advantage: every rock guarantees stone, and you do get a small amount of Mining experience. It can also spawn Mystic Stones, which can be manipulated to drop Prismatic Shards if you’re not good at mining in the deeper levels of the Mines.
Additional Features of the Quarry
- Trees: Oak and Maple trees can spawn, but not Pine or Mahogany. However, they spawn even slower than stones.
- Soil and Foraging: The soil looks more fertile than the farm, but you can’t actually plant crops here. You can forage for Clay, Winter Root, and Snow Yams. The soil resets every day.
- Artefacts: Worms also appear in the Quarry. They yield the same types of items as found on the left side of the map.
Practical Uses of the Quarry
The Most Popular Use: Keg Placement
The Quarry’s rectangular shape and substantial area make it an excellent location for placing Kegs. What’s more, there’s a Minecart station nearby, providing quick transport between the Farm and the Bus Stop.
Given that Kegs only need to be checked once a week, the Quarry’s distance from your main farm isn’t much of an issue. According to the article, you can place up to 359 kegs in a space-efficient layout.
Other Quarry Tips
- Flooring: To make it more convenient, consider laying down flooring. It prevents the growth of stones and weeds that could obstruct your kegs or trees.
- Not Ideal for Tree Tapping: Though you can use it for Oak Resin or Maple Syrup, it’s generally less effective due to the slow spawn rate of trees.
In Conclusion
The Quarry may not live up to its name when it comes to efficiency in mining, but it does offer unique advantages. It provides a decent, out-of-the-way spot for your Kegs and serves as an alternative method for obtaining specific rare items. Knowing how to make the most of this area can significantly enhance your Stardew Valley experience.
Remember, how you use the Quarry is ultimately up to you and your farm’s needs. Whether you use it for stone, Keg storage, or even as a sparse tree farm, it can serve a useful purpose if you know how to exploit its features effectively.
