Magnet Train Pass & Machine Part
Restore the Power Plant, pick up the hidden Machine Part in Cerulean Gym, claim TM07 Zap Cannon, then trade Copycat’s Lost Item for the Magnet Train Pass. Same quest on Gold and Silver. Use the live checklist, map pins, item pages, and walkthrough steps—this is not a Mewtwo hunt.
Fast answer
Manager → gym flee scene → tile (3, 8) → TM07 → Copycat Pass
- Enter the Power Plant from Route 10 North and talk to the manager.
- Trigger the Rocket in Cerulean Gym. Once he flees, the hidden part is already collectible; the Route 24 Golbat Lv.30 battle is optional.
- Grab the hidden Machine Part at gym tile (3, 8). Fight the Route 24 Rocket first only if you want that missable battle, then return the part for TM07 Zap Cannon.
- Talk to Copycat, take the Lost Item from the Vermilion Fan Club, trade it back for the Pass.
Mewtwo note: Original Gold/Silver never spawn Mewtwo in the Power Plant or Cerulean Cave. Power restore unlocks radio (EXPN), Snorlax, and Magnet Train—import Mewtwo with the Time Capsule / dex requirements path.
Before you start
Requirements
Story gates
Useful tools
- Itemfinder makes the gym pool tile easier if you do not want to click every square.
- A rock- or electric-resistant mon for Golbat’s Wing Attack / Bite is enough; the Rocket is only Lv.30.
- Bag space for TM07 and later the Pass key item.
What power unlocks
- EXPN Card path in Lavender → Poké Flute radio → Snorlax.
- Magnet Train station population + Copycat Pass side quest.
- Several blocked NPCs and path gates clear once Kanto power is restored (including underground-path related story states).
Quest A
Power Plant Machine Part
1. Talk to the manager
- Enter the plant from Route 10 North (sign: “Kanto Power Plant”).
- Speak to the manager. He sets the theft flags and arms the Cerulean Gym Rocket scene.
- Leaving the plant without the part is normal—the item is never inside the building.
2. Cerulean Gym flee scene · Route 24 optional
- Walk into Cerulean Gym. The Rocket interrupts and flees.
- The flee scene is enough to let you pick up the Machine Part. No battle flag is checked by the hidden item.
- Optional: catch him on Route 24 for a Rocket Grunt battle with one Golbat Lv.30.
- Moves on that Golbat: Supersonic, Bite, Confuse Ray, Wing Attack.
Poison / Flying · one mon party
3. Hidden Machine Part
- After the Rocket flees the gym, inspect the upper-left pool at tile (3, 8); you do not need to visit Route 24 first.
- One-time hidden item: Itemfinder or face the square and press A.
- Open the live map pin for the gym pool if you need the exact square highlighted.
Pickup text (game): “A machine part for the Power Plant.”
4. Return part → restore power
- Back to the Power Plant manager with Machine Part in the bag.
- He takes the part, sets power restored, removes the Route 24 Rocket if still present, and awards TM07 Zap Cannon.
- Zap Cannon: Electric special, power 100, accuracy 50%, PP 5, always paralyzes on a successful hit.
Power Plant
Start and finish the Machine Part exchange; claim TM07.
Cerulean Gym
Rocket flee script + hidden part at (3, 8).
Route 24
Optional Rocket Grunt battle. Do it before returning the part if you want it; the pickup itself does not require this fight.
Quest B
Copycat Lost Item → Magnet Train Pass
1. Power must be restored first
- Copycat only discusses the missing doll after you return the Machine Part and restore power.
- The Fan Club Clefairy Guy only hands over the Lost Item after power is up and you have heard Copycat’s doll story.
- Order matters: power → Copycat dialogue → Fan Club doll → return for Pass.
2. Talk to Copycat (Saffron 2F)
- House in Saffron City; climb to Copycat’s House 2F.
- She mimics you, then frets about the lost Poké Doll.
- This sets the flag that unlocks the Fan Club handoff.
3. Lost Item at the Fan Club
- Travel to Pokémon Fan Club in Vermilion.
- Talk to the Clefairy Guy. He gives the Lost Item (Poké Doll key item).
- Description: “The Poké Doll lost by the Copycat.”
4. Trade doll for the Pass
- Return to Copycat with the Lost Item; she takes the doll and gives the Pass.
- Description: “A ticket for the Magnet Train.”
- Ride between Goldenrod Station and Saffron Station once power is restored and you hold the Pass.
Payoff: Instant Johto ↔ Kanto travel for badge grinding, shops, and the run to Mt. Silver / Red.
Copycat’s House 2F
Doll dialogue and Pass handoff.
Pokémon Fan Club
Lost Item gift from the Clefairy Guy.
Saffron Magnet Train
Kanto terminus once power + Pass are set.

Tips & common fails
Part not appearing
Talk to the Power Plant manager first; he clears the hidden-item flag and arms the Cerulean Gym scene. Then enter the gym so the Rocket flees. The Route 24 fight is not required. If the Rocket is missing, you may already have returned the part, which removes him.
Fan Club will not give the doll
Restore power first, then talk to Copycat about the doll, then return to the Fan Club. Skipping Copycat locks the Lost Item gift.
Train still “closed”
You need both restored power and the Pass key item. Stations stay quiet if either flag is missing.
FAQ
Common questions
Where is the Machine Part in Pokemon Gold and Silver?
After talking to the Power Plant manager and triggering the Rocket’s Cerulean Gym flee scene, inspect the upper-left pool at tile (3, 8). The Route 24 battle is optional, but returning the part first removes that Rocket.
How do I get the Magnet Train Pass?
Restore power, talk to Copycat about her doll, take the Lost Item from the Vermilion Fan Club Clefairy Guy, and return the doll to Copycat for the Pass.
Is Mewtwo in the Power Plant?
No on original Gold/Silver cartridges. The plant quest restores electricity. Catchable Mewtwo is a Gen 1 / remake expectation—use the complete Pokédex requirements and Time Capsule tools to import it.
Do Gold and Silver differ for this quest?
No. Maps, hidden tile, Rocket party, TM07, Lost Item, and Pass are the same on both versions.
Is this the HeartGold / SoulSilver path?
No. This page is original Game Boy Color Gold and Silver only. Remakes change presentation and some Kanto flow—use remake guides for those carts.
What is TM07 good for?
Zap Cannon hits hard and always paralyzes when it lands, but 50% accuracy makes it a high-risk closer. Pair with accuracy support or use it as a status threat. Full learner list is on the Zap Cannon page.
