Indigo Plateau · Endgame
Pokemon Yellow Elite Four guide
Five battles, no mid-run Center: Lorelei → Bruno → Agatha → Lance → Champion Rival. Yellow keeps the classic Ice / Fighting / Ghost / Dragon rooms, then a path-specific Champion six. Levels span roughly 53–65. Use the room cards, Rival path switcher, and checklist below with the map and trainer tools.
Fast Answer
What to bring
Pack Electric + Ice + Psychic/Ground coverage, status healing, and PP restore. Electric and Fighting cut Lorelei’s Ice line; Psychic or Flying punish Bruno; Psychic is excellent into Agatha because her Ghosts are also Poison-type (the Gen 1 bug only makes Ghost attacks fail against Psychic); Ice Beam hard-counters Lance; then switch answers for the Champion’s path-specific Eeveelution. Aim party levels in the mid-50s to low 60s after Victory Road.
Before the lobby
Victory Road → Indigo Plateau
- Route 22 late Rival (Lv. 45–53) is a warm-up for coverage gaps—same Eevee branch as the Champion.
- Route 23 badge gates require all eight badges; Earth Badge opens League access.
- Victory Road needs Strength (and usually Surf/Fly for routing). Moltres is optional on 2F in Yellow.
- Heal, buy items, and rearrange boxes only in the Indigo Plateau lobby—once you walk into Lorelei’s room, you commit to all five fights.
Checklist
Track the gauntlet on this device
Room 1
Lorelei · Ice room
Levels 53–56. Theme: Water / Ice with Slowbro and Jynx support. Electric and Fighting crush most of the room; watch status and Blizzard.
Dewgong · 54
- Bubblebeam, Aurora Beam, Rest, Take Down
- Electric / Fighting preferred
Cloyster · 53
- Clamp, Supersonic, Ice Beam, Spike Cannon
- High Defense—Special Electric hits hard
Slowbro · 54
- Psychic, Surf, Withdraw, Amnesia
- Electric still strong; don’t let Amnesia stack
Jynx · 56
- Doubleslap, Ice Punch, Lovely Kiss, Thrash
- Sleep is the real threat—Full Wake / switch
Lapras · 56
- Body Slam, Confuse Ray, Blizzard, Hydro Pump
- Ace—Electric stab or strong Fighting
Counters: Jolteon / Raichu / Magneton / Zapdos, or a Fighting gift mon. If you gifted Lapras earlier, don’t mirror-match her Lapras without Electric backup.
Room 2
Bruno · Fighting room
Levels 53–58. Two Onix plus Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Machamp. Psychic and Flying crush Fighting; Water/Grass/Ground handle Onix.
Onix · 53
- Rock Slide, Screech, Slam, Dig
- Water / Grass / Ice / Ground
Hitmonchan · 55
- Ice / Thunder / Fire Punch, Double Team
- Psychic or Flying
Hitmonlee · 55
- Double Kick, Mega Kick, Hi Jump Kick, Double Team
- Same answers as Chan
Onix · 56
- Rock Slide, Screech, Slam, Earthquake
- Faster pressure—don’t leave frail Flying in
Machamp · 58
- Leer, Karate Chop, Strength, Submission
- Ace—Psychic spam or bulky Flying
Room 3
Agatha · Ghost room
Levels 55–60. Ghost/Poison core with Golbat and Arbok. In Gen 1, Normal is immune to Ghost, and the Ghost vs Psychic chart is buggy—bring real damage (Ground, Rock, Electric, Ice, Fighting where legal) instead of “just use a Normal tank.”
Gengar · 56
- Confuse Ray, Substitute, Lick, Mega Drain
- Break Sub; Ground/Psychic-style specials that actually connect
Golbat · 56
- Bite, Toxic, Wing Attack, Leech Life
- Electric / Ice / Rock preferred
Haunter · 55
- Confuse Ray, Lick, Hypnosis, Dream Eater
- Stay awake—Full Heal ready
Arbok · 58
- Wrap, Glare, Screech, Acid
- Ground / Psychic / Dig answers
Gengar · 60
- Confuse Ray, Psychic, Hypnosis, Dream Eater
- Ace—finish before sleep loops
Room 4
Lance · Dragon room
Levels 56–62. Dragons plus Gyarados and Aerodactyl. Ice Beam is the clean answer; Dragonite carries Blizzard / Fire Blast / Thunder, so don’t bank on a single type immunity.
Gyarados · 58
- Dragon Rage, Leer, Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam
- Electric preferred
Dragonair · 56
- Thunder Wave, Slam, Thunderbolt, Hyper Beam
- Ice Beam
Dragonair · 56
- Bubblebeam, Wrap, Ice Beam, Hyper Beam
- Ice Beam; watch Wrap stalls
Aerodactyl · 60
- Wing Attack, Swift, Fly, Hyper Beam
- Ice / Electric / Water / Rock
Dragonite · 62
- Blizzard, Fire Blast, Thunder, Hyper Beam
- Ice Beam ace kill—or tank and punish Hyper Beam recharge
After Lance you go straight to the Champion. Do not burn every Full Restore here if the last mon is clean.

Play tips
What usually wipes parties
PP, not only HP
Five fights empty Ice Beam and Thunderbolt. Carry Ethers/Elixirs or a second Ice user.
Status pile-up
Lovely Kiss, Hypnosis, Thunder Wave, Toxic, and Confuse Ray stack across rooms. Full Heals matter as much as Revives.
Hyper Beam recharge
Lance’s dragons and several Champion mon fire Hyper Beam—switch or set up on the recharge turn when safe.
After Hall of Fame
Cerulean Cave and Mewtwo open. Use the legendary locations and catch tools for the postgame.
