Indigo Plateau · Fire bird
Pokemon Yellow Victory Road
Clear Route 23, solve the Strength boulder switches, optionally catch Moltres (Lv.50 on 2F)—Yellow’s fire bird is not on Mt. Ember—then open the path to the Elite Four. Track every switch, loot, trainer, and catch odds below.
Fast answer
Switches open the League · Moltres is on 2F
Enter with all eight badges and Strength. Place boulders on switches on 1F and 2F, open 3F, drop the far-right boulder back to 2F, then hit the final 2F switch. Moltres is a one-time Lv.50 static on Victory Road 2F—optional, and not a remake Mt. Ember quest.
Yellow-specific
Do not follow Mt. Ember guides
FireRed, LeafGreen, Let’s Go, and many modern videos put Moltres on Mt. Ember. Original Pokémon Yellow places it on Victory Road 2F while you clear the League path. If a guide mentions Kindler NPCs or the Sevii Islands, you are on the wrong generation.
Interactive tool
Boulder switch tracker
Mark each switch done. Map pins match the Yellow Victory Road layout.
Save before long pushes
If a boulder wedges wrong, leave and re-enter the floor to reset positions. Softlocks are rare but rewinding a long push hurts without a save.
Moltres mid-route
You meet the bird while solving 2F—not after the Elite Four. Decide catch vs skip before you burn Full Restores needed for the League.
Drop is mandatory
The 3F→2F hole drop is what creates the final switch boulder. Skipping 3F leaves the League barrier closed.
No center inside
Heal at the Indigo Plateau building only after you exit—or backtrack to Viridian. Stock Full Restores and Max Revives from 2F/3F loot.

Requirements
Badge checkpoints
Every gym badge is checked on Route 23 before the cave. Missing any badge blocks the Victory Road entrance sequence.

Victory Road 2F static
Opens with Fire Spin + Peck. One overworld battle per save. Water, Rock, and Electric moves hit hard; do not stack Fire into it.
Default Max HP 158 uses HP DV 8 and zero Stat Exp. A fresh Lv.50 Moltres with base HP 90 can legally range from 150–165 HP.

Tips
Clear faster
Grab TM43 Sky Attack
On 1F before you leave for good. Flying STAB backup for later content if a bird joins the team.
Water for Moltres
Surf users and Hydro Pump / Blizzard coverage chip Fire/Flying safely. Avoid Fire Spin mirror matches.
Hidden Ultra Ball
2F hidden Ultra Ball pairs with the catch attempt. Itemfinder recommended before the bird fight.
League immediately after
Exit, heal in the plateau building, then open the Elite Four guide—Lorelei’s Ice wall is the first real check.

FAQ
Victory Road & Moltres questions
Where is Moltres in Pokemon Yellow?
Victory Road 2F, level 50, one-time static. Not Mt. Ember from remakes.
How do I open the path through Victory Road?
Use Strength on floor switches on 1F and 2F, clear 3F, drop the far boulder to 2F, and push it onto the final switch.
What requirements do I need?
All eight badges for Route 23, plus HM04 Strength (Rainbow Badge for field use).
Do I need Moltres for the Elite Four?
No. It is optional. Catching it can help or cost resources right before Lorelei.
Why can’t I enter Victory Road?
A missing badge on Route 23 blocks progress. Check the Gym tools and badge list before re-walking the gates.
