Strategy

When to spend Rare Candies

Each candy raises one level (to a max of 100). They do not grant the Stat Exp of a real KO—pair with battle training when stats matter.

Level after candies

41

Uses min(100, current + candies).

Save for evolution thresholds

Push a mon over a critical evolve level (or a gym gate) instead of burning early candies on random +1s.

Day Care is cheaper walking XP

Long grinds are often better in the Day Care; keep candies for awkward level gaps.

Missable Anne candy

Sweep S.S. Anne 2F Rooms before leaving the Vermilion dock. Receiving Cut alone does not close the ship, so backtracking is still possible.

FAQ

Rare Candy questions

How many Rare Candies in Pokemon Yellow?

14 total: 11 visible, 3 hidden. None are sold in stores.

Earliest Rare Candy?

Visible ball on Mt. Moon 1F after Brock.

Where are the hidden ones?

Cerulean City, Route 17, and Pokemon Mansion B1F. Bring Itemfinder (30 owned, Route 11 Gate 2F).

Can I miss any forever?

S.S. Anne interiors become inaccessible after the ship leaves. Other candies stay available when you can reach their maps (Cerulean Cave needs Champion).

Do candies help Stat Exp?

No meaningful Stat Exp from the candy itself—only the level. Farm KOs for stats; see the Stat Experience lab.
